Waste to Energy: when scraps become energy

Developing custom solutions to get the maximum output from waste and give new life to scrap. This has been the mission that Forrec, for over 60 years, has been pursuing by designing innovative technologies for the treatment of municipal and industrial solid waste.

In all these years of activity, FOR REC has never stopped researching and growing, achieving several goals and developing innovative solutions capable of treating numerous types of waste.
In particular, in the last two years, it has carried out several projects for the treatment of MSW (municipal solid waste), refrigerators, tires, electrical and electronic waste, and electric cables and motors that have garnered the approval of companies from all over the world.

Municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment

Due to the particular characteristics of these materials and their treatment, municipal solid waste requires ad hoc treatment in order to get ready for the combustion and generate energy from a product which is commonly considered "waste". For this reason, FOR REC has developed a line dedicated to the treatment of municipal solid waste: a series of machines capable of minimizing the number of steps in the processing of the material and ensuring quality output, avoiding secondary grinding and reducing operating and maintenance costs.

Then, over the years, FOR REC decided to strive to increase the performance of these machines more and more. Therefore, continuous research and innovation have led the company to improve its products and recycling lines, offering the market solutions with excellent performance.
An example of this is the FR5000 primary multi crusher: a high-performance municipal and industrial solid waste treatment machine that allows processing of high quantities of material, avoiding machine downtime. In particular, FOR REC’s internal R&D department has worked to make the cutting system and maintenance of this machine even more efficient, resulting in a model that today claims:

  • Removable blade holders by unscrewing the flanges, removable without moving the hopper or other mechanical parts;
  • Totally independent center and side counter-blades, without support crossbars to optimize the discharge of processed material;
  • Counter-blades positioned on both sides of the cutting edge to ensure equal consumption (managing to double the life of the blades);
  • Adjustable output material size, thanks to the possibility of replacing the counter-blades.

This solution has shown strong interest within the Mexican and Southeast Asian markets, where large companies have recognized its high potential and advantages.

The FR5000 Model for waste processing in Thailand's landfills

Over the years, the idea that waste, other than being a serious problem if not properly treated, can also be a real economic resource is gaining ground.
This has been understood by one of Thailand's leading operators in cement production, which decided to differentiate its business and become the first operator in waste-to-energy fuel conversion.

Therefore, after a meeting with FOR REC, the company decided to implement 4 lines for processing waste into CSS, consisting of FR5000 series multi crushers , sorting disc screens, magnetic separator, and conveyor belts.
The plant was designed in a simple and compact way to reduce operating costs and contain the price of the output product. This line is thus presented as a crucial project for the Asian market, destined to be replicated in the area and contributing to the prevention of pollution that is strongly threatening these areas.

Single plants designed to process waste

In addition to the design of complete lines, the focus of FOR REC's production remains the manufacture of single machines, always developed according to customer requirements.
An example of this is the single shaft shredders, created for handling different types of materials and effective for processing and treating even high-density solid waste.

The proposed technologies are aimed at separating and recovering high quality urban and industrial recyclable materials suitable for market needs and energy valorization of the non-recyclable dry fraction.

In any case, whether complete production lines or individual plants, FOR REC's mission is always the same: to produce technologies capable of making waste recovery economically sustainable and profitable, because in FOR REC waste is not seen as discard, but as a material capable of generating real value.
