Electric wires recycling plant: innovation and sustainability with FOR REC solutions

The global market for electric wires is growing steadily, driven by the development of electrical infrastructure, the expansion of renewable energy and the spread of digital technologies. Indeed, demand for electric wires is expected to grow further in the coming years, driven by the modernisation of energy distribution networks and the increasing electrification of key sectors such as automotive and construction.

In this context, the efficient and sustainable management of waste from disused power cables assumes a strategic role. The treatment and recycling of these materials not only helps to reduce the environmental impact, but also represents a real opportunity to recover valuable resources such as copper: a metal with highly conductive characteristics and significant economic value.

The importance of wire recycling for copper recovery

Copper is one of the most demanded materials in the electrical industry due to its excellent electrical and thermal conduction properties, as well as its durability and recyclability. However, the extraction and processing of virgin copper entails high environmental costs, including energy consumption, CO2 emissions and impacts on the ecosystem.

For this reason, the recovery of copper through the recycling of electrical cables is an efficient and sustainable solution that drastically reduces the use of virgin raw materials, cuts production costs and limits waste.
Through mechanical and chemical separation processes, it is possible to obtain recycled copper of very high purity, ready to be re-introduced into the production cycle with technical performance equal to that of the original material.

In addition to the economic value, recycling copper also contributes to reducing the amount of waste to landfill, thus reducing the risk of pollution and improving the management of special waste.

How the recycling cycle of electrical cables works: the FOR REC line

At FOR REC we have developed a high-performance and technologically advanced electric cable recycling line, designed to guarantee an efficient process that complies with the strictest European environmental regulations.
Through this line, the waste material follows a series of steps leading to a final product with a very high degree of purity.

  1. The production cycle starts with the processing of the material to be recycled, which is fed into the double-shaft shredder TB. This machine has the task of fragmenting the cable into smaller pieces, facilitating its subsequent processing.
  2. Subsequently, the material passes to the single-shaft grinder AE, which further reduces the size of the cable, progressively freeing the copper from the plastic insulation.
  3. A granulator then perfects the separation by shredding the plastic and insulating the metal, while the turbine and magnetic and densimetric separation systems complete the material splitting stage.

This line is also equipped with a modern and efficient suction and filtration system, capable of containing emissions and guaranteeing compliance with European regulations on industrial emissions, protecting the environment and the health of operators.

5 advantages of the FOR REC electric motor and wire recycling line

The entire process is designed to optimise the recovery of pure copper and to minimise waste, ensuring a consistently high return. The main advantages of this plant include:

  • High purity of the end product: recovered copper reaches purity levels of 99.7%, guaranteeing a superior quality material suitable for numerous industrial applications.
  • High quality standards and regulatory compliance: the lines are designed and manufactured according to the strictest European regulations, ensuring safety, sustainability and respect for the environment.
  • Customisation and turnkey: each plant can be configured according to specific customer requirements, from processing volume to the type of materials handled, offering flexible, tailor-made solutions.
  • High production capacities: the proposed range of plants covers a capacity from 500 kg up to 10 tonnes per hour, adapting to different production sizes, from medium to large industries.
  • State-of-the-art technology: the integration of advanced shredding, grinding and separation systems, combined with state-of-the-art extraction and filtration systems, guarantees efficiency, reduced energy consumption and low environmental impact.
